TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Every student who enters an art program brings with them a distinctive narrative, perspective, and creative vision that is uniquely their own. I believe that the essence of art education lies in cultivating the individuality of each aspiring artist. I empower my students with the essential skills, resources, and vocabulary to articulate their vision confidently and effectively to the world, in a space of mutual support and understanding.
My teaching philosophy emphasizes a comprehensive approach to skill-building that encompasses both traditional techniques and contemporary practices. Through a structured and dynamic curriculum, I help students hone their technical abilities and refine their proficiency in various mediums and application, communicating concrete expectations for each assignment. Gaining exposure to the contemporary art world is essential for development. I provide students with valuable resources, recommending artists and concepts for their personal research. Additionally, I create assignments designed to push the bounds of their artistic practice, and I keep them actively learning by exploring and discussing art on field trips to galleries and museums.
Artistic growth is not just about honing technical skills; it is a profound journey of self-discovery and self-expression. As a result, I am committed to investing the necessary time and effort to guide and nurture each student's inner voice, allowing it to flourish and resonate through their work. Freedom from self-imposed creative constructs is essential to growth. In my classroom, I encourage experimentation through assignments that involve destruction and play.
It is of upmost importance to foster a space where every student has the opportunity to thrive, express their unique vision, and contribute. I encourage open dialogue and discussions that promote understanding and respect for diverse viewpoints. This allows a safe space where students can express themselves freely without fear of judgment, building a sense of mutual support and learning. Through these principles, I aspire to create an environment where students not only become skilled painters but also compassionate and socially conscious artists.
